Welcome to the Worser Bay Boating Club

Worser Bay is a dinghy sailing club. We have active fleets for all ages and levels of sailors, and types of boats. The club offers many
learn to sail courses for non sailors and people wanting to refresh sailing skills, and sailing development programmes for all members.

We have about 260 members. Fleet numbers for this season are: Optimist 40,   P class 1, Starling 15, Sunburst 48, OK dinghies 11, Lasers  35 , Skiffs 6, 420's 6,  Zephyrs 2 and each year we seem to hook in more great sailors.

Opening day for the 2008-2009 season will be Saturday 13th September 2008.

Gold Medals at OK Worlds

Victory for New Zealand sailor Karl Purdie at the OK Dinghy Worlds, who has managed to break the three year domination of British sailor Nick Craig.

In a tense race 9 Craig sailed well to finish in 4th while Purdie had a nervous 16th. This was just enough to give Purdie the title even though the last race was abandoned after the skies went black and a huge thunderstorm bore down on the fleet.

Overall, Kiwis had 3 in the top 10; Purdie, Mark Perrow in 6th and Greg Wilcox in 10th. Purdie also picked up the veterans trophy while Worser Bay team mate, Matt Steven picked up the junior trophy (finishing 11th overall).
Of the 9 races sailed, 6 were won by NZ sailors; Purdie, Steve McDowell, Luke O'Connell, Alistair Deaves, Matt Steven and Greg Wilcox. The trophy haul was truly impressive.

After five days of racing in Gdansk, Poland, New Zealand has taken out both the gold and silver medals at the 2008 FISU World University Match Racing Championships.
Josh Junior, Matthew Steven, Chris Jones and Carl Syman sailing for the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, ran out convincing winners in the finals over their country mates from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
The team would like to thank the Eastern Suburbs Sports Trust, Barton Marine, Ronstan and the Wellington City Council for their valued support.
